Questions people ask.
How long does a spouse visa take?
Up to 12 weeks from outside the UK and up to 8 weeks inside, from the biometrics appointment. Priority (£500) and super priority (£1,000, UK only) are available at most centres.
What is the income requirement?
£29,000 a year gross for the sponsor, or £88,500 in savings, or a mix. Couples already on the route before 11 April 2024 keep the £18,600 threshold.
Can I work on a spouse visa?
Yes, for any employer or yourself, from the day you arrive. A fiancé visa does not allow work until you switch to the spouse visa after the wedding.
What English level do I need?
A1 for the first visa, A2 at the extension and B1 for settlement, from an approved test provider, unless you are exempt.
What evidence of the relationship is needed?
Your marriage certificate, and evidence of life together across the relationship: photographs, travel, messages, joint commitments and, where you live together, correspondence to the same address.
